Martial shuns reports he wants PSG move after Mourinho fallout

Anthony Martial has started just one league match this calendar year, but pledged his loyalty to Manchester United on Monday following rumours of a fallout with manager Jose Mourinho.

The forward felt he had been "scapegoated for his team's failings this season," according to The Sun's Fred Nathan, and, as a result, was prepared to force a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The 21-year-old, a £36-million signing from AS Monaco in 2015, has been regularly named among the substitutes this term, and stayed on the bench throughout Sunday's 3-0 trouncing of Leicester City.

Martial attempted to quash rumours of discontent on Twitter, however, by posting:

The Lyon academy product's transfer to United could be worth as much as £58 million after various clauses written into the paperwork, but they're unlikely to be met soon while his minutes are restricted by Mourinho. Martial perhaps falls under the group his boss claimed lacks a winning mentality, and the France international currently appears comfortably behind Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, and others in the Stretford pecking order.

Martial hails from a southern suburb in Paris, and if he was to get a move to the Parc des Princes he would perhaps fill the boots of striker Edinson Cavani, who could be granted a lucrative move to China. The Uruguayan's contract is also in its final 18 months, so PSG may be encouraged to cash in now.

Another player touted for the Old Trafford exit is left-back Luke Shaw, a name linked to the throng which apparently lacks mental toughness and has struggled to earn playing time since breaking his leg in September 2015.

Manchester United hosts Watford in the Premier League next Saturday.
