Matt Kuchar, who grew up in Florida but attended Georgia Tech, and now resides in St. Simons Island, Ga., is a huge Atlanta Falcons fan.

Kuchar was at the Georgia Dome two weeks ago to see the Falcons beat the Green Bay Packers for the NFC title, and planned to go to Houston for the Super Bowl. But there was one problem: he committed to play in the Phoenix Open the same week.

"I was almost regretting my commitment to Phoenix because I so want to be supporting the Falcons in Houston. But I knew that I had to honor my commitment and play here," the Olympic bronze medalist told Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.

The seven-time PGA Tour winner hasn't found the winner's circle since 2014 at the RBC Heritage, but finds himself one shot back of the leaders heading into Saturday's third round.

So would Kuchar prefer a Falcons Super Bowl victory or a win Sunday at TPC Scottsdale?

"Personally, a win for me would be sweeter. The city of Atlanta is so excited. That's a major deal for Atlanta. And they're legit. They're for real. I think they stand a real shot at beating New England."
