3 players to watch at the Phoenix Open this weekend

Byeong Hun An and Brendan Steele share the lead after 36 holes at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Steele has won twice on the PGA Tour, while An has never won on Tour. Here are three players that they'll need to keep an eye out for this weekend at TPC Scottsdale.

Adam Hadwin

Hadwin has been rolling this season, despite a rough finish at last week's Farmers Insurance Open. The Canadian was paired with Phil Mickelson and Justin Thomas in the opening two rounds and played the best golf of the threesome. Hadwin has a 68.9 scoring average on the weekend and clearly isn't afraid of the spotlight.

J.B. Holmes

Holmes is two-time champion of the event, winning at TPC Scottsdale in 2006 and 2008. The Kentuckian has 13 birdies in two days to lead the field and has been average at ball-striking. When Holmes does hit greens, he's been impressive, with 1.542 putts per GIR, best in the field. A slight improvement in his approach game will make him tough to beat.

Hideki Matsuyama

The 24-year-old has a pretty decent track record at TPC Scottsdale, and is the defending champion. Matsuyama has been flawless through the opening 36 holes, recording 10 birdies, and his lone bogey came on his last hole Friday. He's first in greens in regulation, missing just four all week. This what a miss looks like for Matsuyama recently: 324 yards down the right fairway.
