Baylor regents claim Art Briles hid information on player misconduct
Baylor regents have submitted documents in response to a lawsuit by a former member of the Bears' staff that alleges Art Briles hid information about players committing crimes.
The former Baylor head coach once texted an assistant coach "Hopefully he's under radar enough they won't recognize name ... Just trying to keep him away from our judicial affairs folks ...," after learning an underage player received a citation for alcohol, according to Jenny Dial Creech of the Houston Chronicle.
Creech notes that Briles waited 10 days to suspend former player Tevin Elliott after he was notified about an allegation of sexual assault. Elliott is now serving a 20-year prison term for sexually assaulting five women.
The documents also show that an assistant coach claimed Briles was notified about an alleged gang rape involving five Baylor players, to which he stated, "Those are some bad dudes. Why was she around those guys?"

Briles was fired and athletic director Ian McCaw resigned after an investigation into how the program handled allegations of sexual assault. McCaw is now the athletic director at Liberty, while Briles has stated he hopes to resume his coaching career.
