Sagna unsuccessful in appeal against £40,000 fine

The Football Association isn't letting Bacary Sagna off the hook.

On Thursday, the FA announced Sagna's appeal against his £40,000 fine was unsuccessful. The French right-back was disciplined for misconduct in relation to a comment posted on social media in which he suggested Lee Mason's refereeing had turned Manchester City's Premier League victory over Burnley into "10 against 12."

City was reportedly dismayed by the severity of the tariff, believing the fine was excessive given Sagna's previous good character, his deletion of the comment, and precedents, including the £25,000 that Andre Gray was fined in 2012 for posting homophobic comments on Twitter.

In the first half of City's 2-1 win against Burnley in January, the club was reduced to 10 players when Mason sent off Fernandinho.
