Toronto FC has retained the services of opportunistic striker Tosaint Ricketts for the "foreseeable" future, locking down the 29-year-old on a new contract announced Thursday.

The length of the deal was not disclosed.

TFC had already exercised an option to keep Ricketts through 2017.

"We are pleased to sign Tosaint to a new contract that will keep him at the club for the foreseeable future," said general manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "Tosaint is a valued player for both TFC and the Canadian men's national team. He made an immediate impact upon signing and that continued throughout the season and our run to the MLS Cup."

Ricketts arrived in Toronto for his maiden MLS adventure midway through the 2016 season, and served an important role off the bench as TFC reached the MLS Cup final. He scored four goals and tallied one assists in 17 appearances for the Reds, including an important strike that led them to a Conference Semifinal win over New York City FC.

A Canadian international, Ricketts remains a reliable substitute for Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore.
