Texans want Osweiler to 'step up,' could add QB in draft

The Houston Texans can probably be ruled out as a potential destination for free-agent quarterbacks.

Starter Brock Osweiler struggled in the first year of a $72-million contract in 2016, prompting team owner Bob McNair to say Osweiler needs to "step up."

McNair admitted Wednesday that his team is looking for better production from the quarterback position, but suggested it won't come by adding a free agent.

"We need better performance out of that position, not much available out there," McNair said, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

McNair said he wants to see Tom Savage compete with Osweiler for the starting job, and added that the Texans are likely to target a quarterback in the draft.
