Burnley makes Brady club's record signing for reported £13M

After negotiating for some time to land versatile left-back Robbie Brady, Burnley finally completed a deal Tuesday for a club-record fee in the final hours of the January transfer window.

Brady was one of three players to leave Norwich City this month, with the Canaries securing Ajax product Mitchell Dijks and replacement winger Yanic Wildschut from Wigan on the same day.

The Clarets paid £13 million to acquire the Ireland international, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker.

Brady put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract at Turf Moor. He was announced on the loud speakers at half-time of Tuesday's fixture against Leicester City.

"That's gone done very well with the Burnley fans," wrote BBC commentator Conor McNamara, who attended the match.

It's the second time in less than six months the club has smashed its own transfer record. The Lancashire outfit set the standard in August with a £10.5-million move for fellow Irishman Jeff Hendrick.

A natural full-back who can play just as well in a more advanced left midfield role, Brady gives manager Sean Dyche some tactical flexibility. Another Irishman, Stephen Ward, has occupied the left-back position all season, with Scott Arfield and Johann Berg Gudmundsson alternating just ahead.

Brady is adept at crossing the ball and running the length of the pitch.

He returns to the Premier League after a short stint in the Championship with Norwich, which was relegated to the second division last season.

He could make his debut Saturday against Watford.
