Top Prospect to Watch in 2017

The rebuilding Padres will be flush with young players in significant roles, but Margot is the most likely to provide substantial fantasy value. He is Baseball America's No. 26 prospect and is expected to begin the year in patrolling centerfield for the friars. He has much more speed than power and could stick at the top of the lineup if able to get on base consistently.

Who Will Drive You Crazy?

A fairly common line of thinking is for all 30 MLB teams to have at least one fantasy-worthy starting pitcher. The Padres current rotation looks to disprove this theory. While they'll have the advantage of a pitcher-friendly ballpark, Chacin leads the five with a career ERA of 3.94; a number irrelevant in mixed-league formats with wins and strikeouts not in abundance.

The One to Own

Don't overthink this one. Myers is the only viable star on the Padres' Opening Day roster, as not enough is yet known about Margot or Renfroe. Myers overcome his early-career injury issues in 2016 to play 157 games and accumulate 676 plate appearances. He didn't disappoint in his first full sample and should again reach the 20/20 threshold with relative ease.

Top Sleeper

Jankowski is a slight detriment to fantasy owners in the batting average category, but he posted a .332 on-base percentage which allowed him to remain at the top of the lineup. He was given the green light often, attempting 42 steals in 131 games and converting 30. With Margot, Myers and Renfroe likely to hit behind him, he could approach 100 runs if the OBP stays steady.
