Report: 49ers suing Aldon Smith for over $340K in bonus money

The San Francisco 49ers are suing former pass-rusher Aldon Smith for repayment of a signing bonus involved in his contract with the team, via CSN Bay Area.

Smith reportedly still owes the organization $341,630.18 of the $1,186,027 he was ruled to forfeit as a result of a suspension that forced him to miss nine games of the 2014 season.

An August 2015 incident, in which Smith was charged with DUI, hit and run, and vandalism, later led to the former first-round pick's release from the 49ers. He went on to sign with the Oakland Raiders, appearing in nine games before punishment for his latest substance abuse violation was handed down in the form of an indefinite suspension.

Smith had hoped to return to the Raiders once he reached the one-year suspension mark this past November, but the NFL has further delayed a decision and will reassess his situation in March.
