Watch: 4 fights to get you hyped for the return of 'The Korean Zombie'
This weekend, the UFC is trusting a fighter who hasn't fought in more than three years to headline an event.
Considering the fighter in question is "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung, the decision is more understandable.
In just six appearances with the UFC and its World Extreme Cagefighting affiliate, the 29-year-old Jung went from cult hero to championship contender with a series of brilliantly brutal performances and memorable finishes.
Mandatory military service in his native South Korea forced him out of action for two years, and his comeback was further delayed by a pair of shoulder surgeries. On Saturday, he'll battle top-10 featherweight Dennis Bermudez at UFC Fight Night 104 in his first fight since August 2013.
Here are four fights that will get you excited for Jung's return:
Jung and Leonard Garcia set it off
Though the WEC was only a few events away from merging with the UFC, it was still a critically lauded promotion in 2010, admired for its showcasing of the featherweight and bantamweight divisions. That made it the perfect platform for Jung's American debut at WEC 48.
He was paired up with noted maniac Leonard "Bad Boy" Garcia, and the two men didn't disappoint. For three rounds, Garcia threw everything he had at the newcomer, only to discover firsthand why Jung is known as The Korean Zombie. Jung absorbed dozens of punches and fired back with gusto.
Garcia would go on to take a controversial split decision, but Jung made a name for himself on that day, and the seeds were sewn for a rematch.
The twister
That rematch would take place in the Octagon, as Garcia would once again welcome Jung to a new promotion. Fans had been begging to see Jung get another crack at Garcia after their unforgettable first encounter, and they got their wish at UFC Fight Night 24.
This time there would be no doubt as to who was the better man. The Korean Zombie made Garcia pay for slipping after a missed kick, jumping into his guard and gaining back control after a sloppy scramble. Garcia was soon forced to tap when he found himself trapped in the first and only "twister" submission in UFC history.
Gone in 7 seconds
Jung doesn't always put smiles on people's faces.
UFC 140 was the promotion's second card in Toronto, and local boy Mark Hominick was looking to put on a show in front of 18,000 roaring fans. Those roars were hushed when Jung caught a charging Hominick with a straight right before following up with ground strikes to force the referee stoppage just seven seconds into the bout.
The Zombie emerges as a contender
While the wins over Garcia and Hominick were fun, there were still questions surrounding Jung's viability as a title challenger. The matchmakers paired him up with top-10 contender Dustin Poirier in May 2012, and the result was an instant classic that also established Jung as a legitimate force at 145 pounds.

Much like the WEC bout with Garcia, this was a back-and-forth affair, but this time Jung asserted himself more as the fight went on. Competing past the third round for the first time in his career, Jung seized the moment and took advantage of an overzealous Poirier to tie him up in a D'Arce choke. Moments later, Poirier was sleeping, and The Korean Zombie was on the short list for a bout with then-champion Jose Aldo.
