Report: Former Alabama QB Cooper Bateman to join Utah as WR

Matthew Emmons / USA TODAY Sports

After announcing his intention to transfer out of the Alabama program in December, Cooper Bateman has found a new home, according to Kyle Goon of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Bateman has enrolled at Utah, and is expected to walk on to the football team, but at a new position.

Coming out of high school in 2013, Bateman was ranked the third-best pro-style quarterback and the 44th best prospect in the country. However, at Utah, Bateman is expected to compete for playing time at wide receiver instead.

The 6-3, 220-pound former quarterback originally hailed from Utah before suiting up for the Crimson Tide.

Utah lost three of their top four receivers from the 2016 season due to graduation. Bateman would be a graduate transfer and would not be required to sit out a year.
