Atlanta United announced Thursday the club has signed Argentine defender Leandro Gonzalez Pirez from Club Estudiantes de La Plata, using Targeted Allocation Money to complete the Discovery Signing.

Pirez is the third player signed by Atlanta on the day, with the club also bringing in Anton Walkes and Brad Guzan in earlier moves. He is also the third Argentine to sign for Gerardo Martino's side, joining Hector Villalba and Yamis Asad.

"I'm very excited to have Leandro join us in Atlanta," Martino said in a club-issued statement. "He fits in well with our style of play and has the ability to make a difference in MLS.”

The 24-year-old joins Atlanta having made over 100 appearances split between in the Argentine top flight and Belgian Pro League outfit Gent.

"We're happy to have secured another player in his prime who has experience playing in his top domestic league," Atlanta United president Darren Eales said. "As we continue to build and assess our roster, we believe Leandro identifies an area of need for our club and we look forward to him making a difference in 2017 and beyond."
