On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain announced the arrival of Guedes from Benfica, as the Portuguese attacker put pen to paper on a contract with Les Parisiens until 2021. The transfer fee is valued at €30 million, but a €7-million bonus is included in the deal should the player be transferred to a third club.

Guedes, who can play as an attacking midfielder and a forward, is the latest youngster off Jorge Mendes' Portuguese production line. Manchester United was, per the Guardian's Rumour Mill, interested in the 20-year-old, but PSG ultimately won the services of the "new Cristiano Ronaldo."

"I'm very happy to join this great club of Paris Saint-Germain," Guedes said. "Playing here with high-level players will allow me to progress. Paris always plays to win titles, so my objective is to win as many trophies as possible as Paris triumphs once again. I know my compatriot Pauleta was a player who was very appreciated by the Parisian supporters. I hope to do as well and to one day become as appreciated as him."

According to ESPN FC'S Jonathan Johnson, Patrick Kluivert, PSG's director of football, was in Lisbon, Portugal this week to push the transfer through with Mendes, and it was reported by the Portuguese press Monday that Guedes hosted a farewell dinner with Benfica players.
