Goodell: Thursday games are actually better than Sunday games

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell doesn't agree with the widespread criticism that Thursday Night Football games are generally worse than games played on Sundays and Mondays.

In an interview Wednesday on "The Herd," Goodell told host Colin Cowherd that the league charts all games and has evidence indicating that games played on Thursday are better than games played on the weekend.

"We're into fact," Goodell said. "There are less penalties, less turnovers. Almost by every barometer the quality of the game is better on Thursday night."

Goodell insisted there are no additional safety risks associated with playing on a short week, a common complaint among players.

"There has not been any indication or facts or anything else that would indicate that the level of injuries is up on Thursday night," Goodell claimed.

Goodell also pointed out that some players enjoy the 10-day "mini-bye" that comes after playing on Thursdays.
