The New England Revolution announced Wednesday the club has acquired defender Antonio Mlinar Delamea in a transfer out of Slovenian outfit Olimpija Ljubljana, using Targeted Allocation Money to craft the signing.

The 25-year-old Slovenian center-back joins the Revs having played 134 matches across all competitions in his senior career since 2008. He's also been capped with the Slovenia national team.

"We are very pleased to add to our defense with an experienced center-back like Toni," Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a club-issued statement. "We're excited to have him here for the beginning of training camp and we look forward to getting him a full preseason of action on the field with his new teammates."

Delamea's signing comes at a crucial juncture for the 2014 MLS Cup finalists, who can count only Je-Vaughn Watson and London Woodberry among the out-and-out central defenders listed on the current roster, with right full-back Andrew Farrell also capable of slotting into the middle of the back line.

As such, head coach Jay Heaps will certainly welcome reinforcements to the core of his defensive line after the club parted ways with veteran center-back Jose Goncalves at the end of the 2016 season.
