Kane: It would be 'stupid' to leave Tottenham

For some footballers, the gold-paved road to China is a tempting one, but Harry Kane believes he and his Tottenham teammates would be "stupid" to leave a club on the rise for cash-rich outfits abroad.

Not that Mauricio Pochettino's men need much convincing to stay.

Kane, who signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with Spurs in 2015, can count the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Hugo Lloris, Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen, and Kyle Walker among those who've pledged their future to the team's cause.

And while their crosstown rivals at Chelsea have been more open to a move to money-lined shores, Kane said he and his Tottenham teammates ought to stick around - there's something special happening at the club, after all.

"I would be surprised if any of my teammates were to leave now," Kane told Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by the Telegraph.

"Something's going on here. We’re just missing that last step - to win trophies. "It would be stupid to leave now.

"You have to choose whether to take the money, or follow your own ambitions, playing in the best league in the world and winning titles."

Tottenham is in the midst of yet another strong campaign, sitting third in the Premier League just one point behind second-place Arsenal.

Apart from a final-day twist of fate that afforded Arsenal supporters a late St. Totteringham's Day to celebrate last season, Spurs also played the role of Leicester City's title challenger throughout the year before succumbing to third.

It's a change spurred on by Pochettino and helped largely by Kane, who potted 21 league goals in his first season under the Argentine tactician before following up with a 25-goal season the following year. He's currently locked in at 13 goals over 22 league appearances in the current campaign.

Tottenham is dealing with a few issues as it grows into itself, chief among them an impending temporary move to Wembley during the development of its new stadium. But that's what makes Tottenham appealing, Kane said.

"We have one of the best coaches in the world, perhaps the best. Soon there will be a new stadium. The future is promising."
