Hull rescues Liverpool castaway Markovic on loan

Hull City took £20-million bust Lazar Markovic off Liverpool's books Monday, signing the Serbian on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of the campaign at Sporting Lisbon, but Liverpool confirmed his loan agreement was terminated by "mutual consent" to sanction the transfer to Hull.

Markovic has made just 34 appearances for the Reds since completing the big-money move from Partizan Belgrade in 2014.

His contract with the Merseyside outfit ends June 30.

A temporary stay at Fenerbahce preceded last August's switch to Sporting, where he has scored only one league goal.

When Markovic finished his loan spell with the Turkish club, he had a chance to show manager Jurgen Klopp he had a future with Liverpool. Despite joining his parent club during its summer tour, however, he did not do enough to convince Klopp to hand him a permanent spot in his squad.

The player will offer Hull boss Marco Silva another wide option in the relegation fight. The Tigers signed Omar Elabdellaoui to reinforce the right-back position last week, and put in a respectable performance against Chelsea on Sunday.

They are currently three points away from safety after 22 matches.
