Hull City's Mason in stable condition after surgery on fractured skull
Ryan Mason is in stable condition after sustaining a skull fracture in Hull City's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Chelsea on Sunday.
Hull published a club statement more than four hours after the final whistle, confirming Mason underwent surgery at St. Mary's Hospital and is in stable condition. The English midfielder is expected to remain in hospital "for the next few days" and a further update will be issued Monday.
The statement thanked the hospital for the care, reading: "Everyone at the club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the Accident and Emergency department and Neurosurgery United at St. Mary's Hospital."
Mason suffered the injury just after the fixture's half-hour mark in a sickening collision with Gary Cahill, who went on to score Chelsea's second goal. The 25-year-old required oxygen and, while lying on the pitch, underwent treatment from members of both Hull and Chelsea's medical staff before departing on a stretcher.
