Milan confirms interest in Everton's Deulofeu

AC Milan could be close to securing a move for out-of-favour Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu before the winter transfer window closes.

Deulofeu, who initially joined Everton on loan from Barcelona before securing a £4.2-million permanent transfer in 2015, has struggled to break into Ronald Koeman's first team and has been primarily used in a substitute role.

However, a move to Italy could be a chance for a fresh start after Milan CEO Adriano Galliani revealed that he is holding talks with the Merseyside club over a possible loan deal that would see Deulofeu join the Italian side until the end of the season.

"I don’t like to make predictions on what Milan could achieve this season, as I don’t know the future, but what happened so far is very good," Galliani said in an interview with Mediaset Premium, as translated by Joe Rimmer of the Liverpool Echo.

"We are talking for Deulofeu, but there is no agreement yet. Everton know full well we can only do loans or with option to buy. Plus there are these pro-Barcelona clauses.

"Tomorrow we will discuss it and try to find a solution, otherwise we’ll remain with the squad as we are."

Of his 11 Premier League appearances this season, Deulofeu has only managed four starts and has been held scoreless in all competitions.

Milan, which fought back from a two-goal deficit to register a 2-2 draw with Torino on Monday, currently sits in the final European spot in the Serie A table with 37 points through 19 games.
