Real Salt Lake announced Thursday the club has re-signed veteran defender Chris Wingert to a new contract that will see him participate in his 10th season with the club, and 14th overall in MLS.

The 34-year-old enjoyed stints at Columbus Crew SC and the Colorado Rapids before settling in at Real Salt Lake, where he spent eight seasons. He was traded to New York City FC in 2015, but returned to Real Salt Lake last season and made 20 appearances.

"We brought Chris back last season to bring depth to every position on our back line and provide a veteran presence in the locker room," RSL general manager Craig Waibel said in a club-issued statement. "As he showed throughout the year, he is still a capable contributor and bringing him back for the 2017 season is a positive in all aspects."

Wingert has made 316 regular-season appearances over 13 seasons, scoring one goal and recording 16 assists.
