Report: Stanford's Chryst expected to miss 6 months with knee injury

It was a costly win for Stanford in the Sun Bowl.

Cardinal quarterback Keller Chryst will miss the next six months because of a knee injury he suffered in the contest, according to Jon Wilner of The Mercury News. The school hasn't released the nature of the ailment, but Wilner reports it's significant ligament damage.

Chryst took over the starting role midway through the season and steadied the Stanford ship. The junior threw 10 touchdowns to only two interceptions and guided the team to six straight wins.

If Chryst isn't ready for the start of the 2017 campaign, it could put David Shaw and Co. in a major bind. Wilner also reports quarterback Ryan Burns, who lost the starting role last season, is expected to transfer.
