Atlanta Hawks general manager Wes Wilcox will not face any disciplinary action from the NBA office as a result of the racially insensitive comment he made during a session with season-ticket holders last month, a source told Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post.

Clarenton Crawford, a fan who attended the event, told Deadspin's Patrick Redford that Wilcox, in an apparent effort to quell a crowd frustrated with the team's play at the time, had said: "I know you guys may be angry with me, but I'm used to it because I have a black wife and three mixed kids, so I'm used to people being angry and argumentative."

Wilcox later apologized in a statement through Deadspin.

While he won't face punishment from the league, the Hawks GM was reportedly placed in counseling after a meeting between Crawford, Hawks CEO Steve Koonin, and Hawks senior VP Nzinga Shaw.

Shaw also serves as the organization's chief diversity and inclusion officer, a position she was appointed to in December 2014 after the revelation of racially offensive remarks made by both former co-owner Bruce Levenson and former general manager Danny Ferry. Levenson subsequently sold his controlling interest in the team, while Ferry was placed on an indefinite leave of absence before being bought out of the remainder of his contract.
