LSU All-American safety Jamal Adams announced Friday he will declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.

"The decision did not come easy, but with the support of my family and the people of LSU, I have been able to develop and grow into an athlete, and a man to take on this next chapter," Adams said.

Adams recorded 76 tackles (7.5 for loss) in 2016, third most on the team. For his career, Adams finished with 209 tackles (17.5 for loss), five interceptions, and 15 pass breakups.

"You (dad) being selected as a first-round draft pick by the (New York) Giants, is something that has always fueled me, made me eager to work, and made my goals attainable," Adams said of his father George Adams. "I can't ask for a better group, like my father and my mom. They sacrificed so much for me."

Adams said he did not Google his name to check where he was being listed in mock drafts, though he had made up his mind for the most part before the Tigers bowl game against Louisville.
