White on Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson: 'Count that out'

The UFC's lightweight title picture remains in a state of limbo.

In a Wednesday media scrum, president Dana White addressed rumors of a potential meeting between the division's top contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, confirming the bout had indeed been in the works, only to fall through when Ferguson raised his price.

"So we were trying to make that fight - Tony said he will not do that fight unless he makes the same exact money that Khabib makes," White said, per FOX Sports' Damon Martin. "Khabib has a different deal. That ain't happening. Count that out."

White also responded to rumblings undisputed featherweight champion Jose Aldo was eyeing a move up to lightweight and a date with Nurmagomedov. The UFC boss revealed the matchup had been entertained, then nixed by the Russian's father - who plays an active role in his career.

"(Jose Aldo) did ask for Khabib. He wanted Khabib because Khabib is looked at as the guy in that weight division. He wanted to fight him. Khabib’s dad didn't want him to fight. Khabib's dad wants him to rest."

Aldo had previously echoed White's explanation, much to the chagrin of Nurmagomedov, who reportedly opted to bide his time in hopes Ferguson would sign on the dotted line.
