Report: Swans' shortlist topped by Coleman, Rowett; Giggs still in frame

Ex-Manchester United and Wales winger Ryan Giggs is the bookies' favourite to take the vacant managerial post at Swansea City, but Sky Sports' Nadeem Badshah understands that Chris Coleman and Gary Rowett head up the club's shortlist of preferred candidates.

Bob Bradley was dismissed from the role after just 85 days on Tuesday, becoming second only to Les Reed in the shortest Premier League tenures, with 11 matches. It was a decision which brought the club's American ownership under scrutiny, and leaves Swansea looking for its third manager this season.

Bradley was preferred ahead of Giggs in October due to the latter's relatively small coaching experience and "an underwhelming interview," according to The Daily Mail's Riath Al-Samarri, but is believed by ESPN FC's Mark Ogden to have "influential support" from fellow Welshman and Swans chairman Huw Jenkins and other members of the boardroom this time around.

While Giggs is apparently open to applying for the job for the second time in less than three months, and the names of Alan Pardew, Frank de Boer, and Nigel Pearson have been uttered, Coleman and Rowett are reportedly vying for top spot in Swansea's attentions.

Coleman, the patriotic handler of the Welsh national team and a defender for Swansea between 1987 and 1991, would prove a crowd-pleasing appointment. Not only is he held in high esteem in his hometown, his guiding of Wales to the semi-final stage of Euro 2016, where it was dumped by eventual winner Portugal, boosted his portfolio significantly.

Rowett, meanwhile, is lauded as one of the most exciting young British managers around, and is on the market after he was unceremoniously ousted by Birmingham City this month due to its ownership seeking a bigger personality at the helm. Gianfranco Zola took the reins at St Andrew's, much to the consternation of the club's support.

The Swansea hierarchy is set to discuss candidates over the next 48 hours, possibly leaving a New Year's Eve's visit from Bournemouth under the interim charge of Alan Curtis.
