4 players selected in Stage 2 of Re-Entry Draft

Houston, San Jose, Columbus, and Sporting Kansas City were the only clubs to make moves in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Thursday.

After watching the Chicago Fire pass with the first overall selection, the Dynamo nabbed former LA Galaxy center-back Leonardo with the No. 2 pick. The veteran saw his 2016 ravaged by injury - making just four regular-season appearances - but should help solidify a club that can go nowhere but up in the Western Conference standings next season.

The Crew then welcomed a familiar face back to town, grabbing defender Josh Williams from Toronto FC; the imposing 28-year-old wore the yellow and black of Columbus from 2010-14.

The Earthquakes kept the streak going, taking speedy Colombian forward Olmes Garcia with the No. 4 selection. Despite a largely underwhelming career at Real Salt Lake to date, at just 24 years old, San Jose will be hoping Garcia can turn the corner with a new team.

After seven clubs opted to pass on their pick, Sporting Kansas City stepped up and took goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra from D.C. United, a move facilitated by Kansas City's loss of Alec Kann during the Expansion Draft earlier this month.

No other players were selected.

Per Major League Soccer, the four clubs now have one week to "extend a genuine contract offer to their drafted player."

If an agreement isn't reached in that time, the team will retain the right of first refusal on the drafted player.
