Report: Weaver on Padres' list of pitching possibilities
The San Diego Padres are keeping tabs on another veteran free-agent pitcher.
After the club was reported Tuesday to be exploring a reunion with former Padre pitcher Jake Peavy, the club is also said to be considering right-hander Jered Weaver as a possible addition to its pitching staff, according to FanRagSports' Jon Heyman.
Weaver, 34, may be far removed from his prime years with the Los Angeles Angels, but the experienced starter may be willing to sign for a relatively affordable deal, similar to Jhoulys Chacin and Clayton Richard, who both penned one-year, $1.75-million pacts with San Diego on Tuesday.

Once one of baseball's most feared hurlers, Weaver has struggled in recent seasons as his velocity dipped to personal lows. According to Brooks Baseball, his fastball averaged just 84.02 mph in 2016, down from a career-high 90.99 mph in 2011.
In 31 starts in 2016, Weaver posted a 5.06 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. He owns a career 3.55 ERA in 11 big-league seasons with the Angels.
