Legia Warsaw striker Nemanja Nikolic is heading to Major League Soccer to join the Chicago Fire for the 2017 season, with the Polish club announcing the move Tuesday.

The Fire confirmed later in the day that Nikolic would be joining the club as a Designated Player, signing a three-year deal with Veljko Paunovic's side.

The 28-year-old Hungarian has appeared in 56 league matches in Poland, scoring 41 goals. He added six goals in eight Champions League appearances as well as a pair of strikes in 10 Europa League fixtures.

Chicago Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez is hoping Nikolic brings that same goal-scoring touch to MLS in 2017.

"Through this transfer, we have secured a champion in his prime, and one of the most prolific goal scorers in Europe over the last few years," Rodriguez said in a club-issued statement. "In addition to his on-field talents, Nemanja is a fantastic person. His relentless pursuit of victory and goals is certain to make him a fan favorite."
