Report: Lewis-Browne in works for UFC 208
Derrick Lewis is getting the top-10 opponent he's been looking for.
Currently ranked No. 9 himself, Lewis is expected to be matched up with No. 10-ranked Travis Browne at UFC 208 on Feb. 11, according to ESPN's Brett Okamoto, citing multiple sources.
"The Black Beast" has been gradually climbing up the heavyweight charts, but outside of a split decision win over Roy Nelson, his opponents have been lacking in relevance.
While Lewis and Browne are heading in opposite directions career-wise (Lewis has won five straight, Browne has lost three of his last four), the 34-year-old Browne brings a wealth of UFC experience with him having made the walk to the Octagon 15 times. Browne holds a notable win over Alistair Overeem, among others.
Lewis most recently competed on Dec. 9 against Shamil Abdurakhimov. After a lackluster performance through three rounds, "The Black Beast" managed to pull out a TKO victory in the fourth to keep the heavyweight division's longest winning streak alive.
UFC 208 will take place at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. It will feature an inaugural women's featherweight title bout between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie, and a light heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira and Jared Cannonier.
