A major name could be on the Los Angeles Rams' head coaching wish list: Pete Carroll.

The prospect of replacing Jeff Fisher with the Seattle Seahawks head coach is intriguing to the Rams' power brokers, Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports.

Sources told Robinson that Rams owner Stan Kroenke and VP Kevin Demoff have huge respect for Carroll.

"Pete makes sense in a lot of ways," a source said. "There is already a defensive core in place for him to work with. He has deep coaching ties across (the NFL) and knows how to build an offensive staff that can bring along (Jared Goff). … He's a California guy at heart and has a track record there with the L.A. fan base (from his time at USC). He’s also a great, great coach."

Carroll is under contract with the Seahawks, the Rams' divisional rivals, through 2019, making it exceptionally unlikely the Rams will be able to acquire him without sending the Seahawks enormous financial and draft pick compensation.

And, as Robinson notes, there's no indication Carroll would have interest in the job in the first place.

Though the possibility of Carroll changing teams within the NFC West appears absurdly remote, this news could have very real ramifications for the Seahawks. It's possible Carroll will capitalize on this news to try to squeeze more money out of his current team.
