Bayern Munich is waiting on standby to find out if Robert Lewandowski is willing to commit his long-term future to the club.

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness revealed that the Bundesliga leader has offered Lewandowski an extension to remain with the club beyond 2019, when his current contract is set to expire.

"It's just up to him now - he's got an offer," Hoeness told German newspaper Bild, as translated by the Press Association. "And it is not like Bayern don't want to keep him.

"I know some of the figures and certainly if you didn't want (to extend his contract), it would look different to this."

Lewandowski - whose brace Saturday helped Bayern beat Wolfsburg and move back into top spot in the Bundesliga - has been the focus of transfer speculation over the past couple of years, with various reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

However, his agent, Maik Barthel, recently indicated that a contract extension could be on the horizon.

Talks between Barthel and Bayern representatives have been ongoing for the majority of the season, and the Poland international has remained confident a deal will be reached.

"I have always said we'll find a solution," Lewandowski said during an interview in September. "We need to remain calm, it isn't that easy once the season is underway. We play every three days, and that's most important for me."

Lewandowski has been one of the Bundesliga's most prolific scorers after finishing as the league leader in goals on two occasions - once with Bayern and previously with Borussia Dortmund.

After a relatively slow start, Lewandowski has returned to form after scoring five times in his last three matches across all competitions. He currently sits four goals behind Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's 15 tallies for tops in the league.
