Ole Miss OC Dan Werner won't return in 2017

Ole Miss offensive coordinator Dan Werner won't return next season, the program announced Thursday.

"I am grateful to Dan for his contributions to our program," head coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. "His leadership and experience were invaluable in the development of our quarterbacks. These are always difficult decisions, but at this time, I believe it is best for our program to have a fresh approach. We wish Dan and his family the very best."

The move means Ole Miss will have two new coordinators next season, as defensive coordinator Dave Wommack previously announced his retirement at season's end.

The Rebels' next offensive play-caller will be tasked with developing highly touted quarterback Shea Patterson, who filled in as the starter following an ACL injury to Chad Kelly.

Ole Miss also announced that assistant athletic director Barney Farrar - one of the central figures in the Laremy Tunsil money controversy - won't have his contract renewed and is no longer a member of the program.
