Zanetti: Inter will sell players following Europa League exit

Inter Milan's negotiating team will be busy this winter, according to vice president Javier Zanetti.

Zanetti revealed that players will be sold in January to cut costs after Inter failed to live up to the new owners' expectations in its elimination from the Europa League.

"The positive thing is that we have owners with great ambitions and we can build our foundations on this," Zanetti told fcinter1908.it, as translated by Ben Gladwell of ESPN FC.

"Let's just wait and see how we do in the games that remain and what will be possible. We have a lot of players on our books now and we've been knocked out of the Europa League, so we're going to have to work mainly on selling players."

Despite managing just two wins from six matches since Frank de Boer was relieved of his managerial duties on Nov. 1, Zanetti insisted he has faith that new manager Stefano Pioli is capable of helping improve Inter's domestic campaign.

"He's had a great impact and has found the club right by him, willing to support him," he said. "He knew what difficulties there were, but together with us we will try all we can to change this situation."

Inter currently sits 10th in the Serie A table after accumulating just 21 points from its opening 15 matches.
