Chargers' McCoy unconcerned with job security: 'I'm worried about Carolina'

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said he "without a doubt" wants to return to the team next season, and insisted he isn't concerned about his job security despite the Chargers being set to miss the playoffs for the third straight season.

Asked whether the Chargers had approached him about extending his current deal - which expires after next season - McCoy said he's just focused on the next game.

"I'm worried about Carolina right now," said McCoy, whose Chargers face the Panthers on Sunday, according to The Associated Press. "That is all I'm concerned about. We have to find a way to go win this one. We got to find a way to go out there and don't turn the ball over, be more consistent in all three phases, finish the game and win. That is all we are concerned about right now is to get a win on the road. We will deal with everything else down the road."

The 5-7 Chargers sit in last place in the AFC West, but have been competitive all season long, losing just one game by more than seven points.

However, San Diego's collapses in the fourth quarter could seal McCoy's fate. The Chargers have blown five fourth-quarter leads this season, with the latest coming in Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Injuries and the strength of the AFC West could save McCoy's job, but the club's poor play late in games - with even two wins out of the five blown leads likely putting them in the wild-card race - might be hard to overlook.

"We've gone into the fourth quarter with the lead plenty of times," McCoy said. "We have been in position to win all of them and we haven't got it done. Like we have been saying, everyone is different. Why is it happening? It's different on a weekly basis."
