Following the New York Yankees swiping in to sign Matt Holliday, the St. Louis Cardinals are still in search for an outfielder, and are keeping tabs on a number of players.

The team continues to explore options in the trade market - specifically showing interest in Lorenzo Cain and Adam Eaton - and have been linked to free agent Dexter Fowler, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post- Dispatch.

Player HR RBI OBP WAR
Cain 9 56 .339 2.9
Eaton 14 59 .362 6.2
Fowler 13 48 .392 4.2

All three would give the Cardinals an above average player in the outfield and in the lineup, especially after the struggles of current center fielder Randal Grichuk, who hit .240/.289/.480 in 132 games.

The team has also kicked tires on outfielder Jarrod Dyson, who would require a far less return than Cain and Eaton through trade. It's been reported that Fowler rejected a four-year deal worth approximately $60 million from the Toronto Blue Jays and is seeking a multi-year contract worth $18 million per year.

Goold notes rival executives have described the Cardinals as poised to make a significant move, patiently waiting to see what comes of the market.
