NFL teams on bye in Week 13 can't wear 'My Cause' cleats

Tommy Gilligan / USA TODAY Sports

For one week, the NFL allowed players across the league to violate uniform rules by wearing cleats dedicated to various causes. Two teams were on bye this week, however, and therefore the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns weren't able to participate in "My Cause My Cleats" week.

It appears they won't be afforded the opportunity to take part in the charitable cause going forward either.

"We should be able to, us and Cleveland," Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo told Paul Kuharsky of ESPN. "We're not allowed; we can't."

Titans cornerback Jason McCourty threatened to wear the cleats he had designed regardless.

"I believe you should be (allowed), so I'll be wearing mine for the game," he said.

Kuharsky, who covers the Titans, reports that many of the Titans didn't expect to be able to participate in the cause and therefore didn't have cleats designed, whether the NFL would allow them to wear them or not.
