Bautista: 'Nothing concrete' in terms of signing anywhere

The market for free-agent outfielder Jose Bautista has been slow to develop this winter.

Coming off a down season, and tied to draft-pick compensation after rejecting a qualifying offer from the Toronto Blue Jays, Bautista will likely have to wait until several other sluggers are off the board before offers become more serious.

"There is nothing concrete with any team about my signature," Bautista told Arving Gonzalez of La Voz del Fanático in Spanish.

At 36 years old, Bautista has seen his skills decline in the outfield and was limited to just 116 games in 2016 due to a pair of trips to the disabled list. In order to mitigate some of those defensive and durability concerns from prospective teams, Bautista's agent said last month that his client is willing to play anywhere or hit anywhere.

Bautista has experience at first base - playing a combined 13 games at the position the last three seasons - and could be a valuable piece alternating between first, right field and serving as DH.

One team that could potentially have interest in Bautista is the Boston Red Sox, who are in search of a middle-of-the-order bat on a short-term deal.

"Being a free agent you just gotta be open to all possibilities," Bautista told Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald when asked about DH'ing for the Red Sox. "I don't know what the future is going to hold for me. I'm excited to see what's gonna develop."
