Watkins misses practice with foot soreness

Sammy Watkins may not be entirely past his injury issues, after all.

The Buffalo Bills' star wide receiver, who made his long-awaited return to game action Sunday, sat out Wednesday's practice due to soreness in his foot, the team announced.

Further details on his status have yet to be made available. It's merely the first of three practices in the week, and it's possible Watkins was always going to require some sort of recovery time after his first snaps in two months.

The apparent complications are a less than ideal development as he works his way back toward a full workload, though, and it's now unclear whether his status for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders will be in question.

Watkins was on the field for 25-of-55 offensive plays in Buffalo's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The expectation after he emerged without any setbacks was that his role would continue to expand in the weeks ahead.

The Bills will presumably proceed with caution to avoid any significant setbacks as they continue to hold out hope that the former first-round pick can regain his role as the offense's No. 1 target down the stretch.
