NYSAC lifts Gastelum's suspension, enables UFC 206 booking
Kelvin Gastelum's future won't be weighed down by a suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission.
On Tuesday, the NYSAC officially lifted Gastelum's six-month suspension for failing to hit the 170-pound mark prior to a bout with Donald Cerrone at UFC 205. That miss resulted in their fight being canceled.
Gastelum and his team planned to appeal the suspension, but they were able to come to a financial settlement with the commission instead.
"The disciplinary action against Kelvin Gastelum has been settled prior to hearing for the payment of a $2,000 fine. The matter is now closed," New York State Athletic Commission representatives told FOX Sports.
The news was first reported by MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, citing sources from Gastelum's camp.
The UFC had already announced that Gastelum will be facing Tim Kennedy in a middleweight bout at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto, but it couldn't become official without the approval of the commission. As the Ontario Athletic Commission was prepared to honor the NYSAC's suspension, presumably they'll honor the lifting of that suspension as well.
