At 17 years and 45 days old, Liverpool product Ben Woodburn became the youngest player in the club's storied history to score a first-team goal, surpassing Michael Owen's record with a rocket of a shot in Tuesday's EFL Cup tie against Leeds United.

Owen previously set the benchmark when he found the back of Wimbledon's net in May 1997 at 17 years and 143 days old.

Emerging from the substitutes' bench to make his second appearance for Jurgen Klopp's side, Woodburn delivered a sweet consolation goal to seal a 2-0 victory and Liverpool's record 17th semi-final appearance in the League Cup.

The academy graduate only made his Premier League debut on the weekend against Sunderland.

Klopp handed Woodburn a chance following several impressive performances with Liverpool's Under-23 team.

The Welshman also featured for the Reds during their preseason tour last summer.
