The Seattle Sounders have booked their spot in the MLS Cup final for the very first time, becoming Western Conference champions after defeating the Colorado Rapids 1-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Sunday.

Jordan Morris' goal gave the Sounders a 3-1 win on aggregate.

Morris' goal - his 14th of the MLS season, and second in the playoffs - came in the 56th minute of play as he and Nelson Valdez exposed space in between the Rapids' lines and set up a chipped shot that beat goalkeeper Zac MacMath with ease.

It was an away goal that buried the Rapids' hopes as it would take two goals from Pablo Mastroeni's side just to restore the draw.

Colorado ranks among the lowest-scoring teams in MLS this season, and as such, that task proved too much to ask from an otherwise well-oiled team that had been unbeaten at home up until this point.

Sounders supporters now celebrate their team's first-ever MLS Cup final berth, in a year mired by inconsistency at first, then split after a series of big changes saw Seattle enjoy a turnaround second half of the season.

Head coach Brian Schmetzer replaced Sigi Schmid at the helm of the club, with newcomer Nicolas Lodeiro pulling the strings and Morris picking up the scoring void left by the absence of Clint Dempsey.

The Sounders now wait to find out whether they'll play away to Toronto FC or at home against the Montreal Impact, with the MLS Cup final venue depending on the result of the Eastern Conference Championship second-leg match on Wednesday.
