The Denver Broncos agreed to a four-year extension with safety Darian Stewart, the team confirmed in a press release Saturday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the story.

Financial terms weren't disclosed by the team, but sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport the extension is worth up to $30 million, including $28 million in base salary with $17.5 million guaranteed.

"This is a life-changing opportunity for me and my family," Stewart said in a statement released by the Broncos. "I love my teammates and coaches as well as our fans. We have a chance to do something great as a team. I want to keep winning, and I'm excited about what the future holds."

Stewart has taken on a leadership role in the Broncos' secondary, helping the team capture Super Bowl 50 last season.

"Darian Stewart has been an integral part of our defense for the last two seasons and we're excited he'll continue to be a big part of our team for the next four years," Broncos general manager John Elway said in a statement. "He brings tremendous physicality and toughness to our defense, and he displays great leadership on and off the field."

The 28-year-old has recorded 44 tackles and three interceptions in 10 games this year.
