Vincent Kompany is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after his latest injury setback.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed to reporters Friday that the team's captain will miss up to six weeks after sustaining a knee injury against Crystal Palace last weekend.

"They confirmed what our doctor said. It's a knee ligament. He will be four-to-six weeks out," Guardiola told the press ahead of City's weekend match against Burnley, according to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports.

Guardiola hinted at the possibility of Yaya Toure deputising Kompany in defence, but admitted other options will be explored before he considers deploying the Ivorian midfielder in the heart of his back line.

"Fernandinho can play there, (Bacary) Sagna can play there. In Crystal Palace, Bacary came in after many weeks out with injury and played as central defender for many minutes," Guardiola said.

The knee injury is the latest in a long list of knocks that have plagued the Belgian for over two years.

Kompany has been out for a total of 260 days in 2016 because of calf, thigh, and groin injuries, according to Adam Smith of Sky Sports. In total, Kompany has been forced to miss 878 days after suffering 37 injuries since his arrival from Bundesliga outfit Hamburg in 2008.
