Bears' Cutler needs shoulder surgery, will be placed on IR

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will undergo surgery on his shoulder and be placed on season-ending injured reserve, head coach John Fox announced Thursday.

Fox said the Bears and Cutler exhausted all options for rehabbing the veteran passer's labrum injury before determining surgery was the best route.

Matt Barkley, who started for Cutler in Week 12, will take over as starter.

Fox was noncommittal on whether Cutler, who's owed $12.5 million in 2017 plus a $2.5-million roster bonus, will remain with the Bears beyond this season.

"The offseason's the offseason. We're not there yet," Fox told reporters, according to Zach Zaidman of CBS 2 Chicago.
