Drogba says he won't return to Impact in 2017

Didier Drogba's appearance as a substitute during the Montreal Impact's victory over Toronto FC on Tuesday may have been his last in front of home supporters.

After the game, Drogba told the media that he won't be back in 2017, though the team did not officially confirm his impending departure.

"There's still one or maybe two games to go," Drogba said in reference to the second leg in Toronto and possibly an appearance in the MLS Cup, according to the BBC. "Next week's game is more important than if it's finished or not.

"Everyone knows it was my last game here. Now let's focus on the semifinal."

Shortly after the Impact secured the 3-2 victory, Montreal released a video chronicling his time with the team, as well as a message thanking the Ivorian forward, who joined the Major League Soccer side in 2015.

Drogba entered Tuesday's match in the 71st minute before Toronto's Michael Bradley cut his team's deficit with a crucial away goal to make it 3-2 just two minutes later.

Drogba got off to a flying start to begin his career in Montreal after scoring 11 goals in his first 11 matches. But his first full campaign in the North American league has been plagued by injuries that eventually saw Drogba lose his starting spot to Matteo Mancosu.

Though his days with the Impact are coming to an end, Drogba did not reveal whether he will hang his boots up for good, or if the 38-year-old plans on joining another football club.

Montreal fans will have a chance to, perhaps, get one last glimpse of Drogba in an Impact jersey when the team travels to Toronto for the second leg of the Eastern Conference semifinal before possibly advancing to the MLS Cup.
