Weird week in football: Last one out kills the lights

Reuters

Every Monday, theScore will highlight the most outlandish moments from the wacky, sometimes daft, and perennially entertaining world of European football. Here's what made us smile - or cringe - on the pitch this past week.

After a characteristically drab international break, footballers the world over have returned to their association obligations, and with them, clubs across Europe are again privy to the bizarre side of the sport.

As one career got its start, with 16-year-old Juventus striker Moise Kean making a debut Serie A bow, another came to an abrupt end when Malaga right-back Roberto Rosales was humiliated by Neymar's sombrero flick.

Such is the fleeting nature of the beautiful game, though there's one thing that never changes, and that's Manchester City women's star Toni Duggan's ability to score worldies. Get in, Duggy.

With that stunner in mind, here's a look at the Weird Week in Football:

Who turned out the lights?

Only fitting that a ground named the Stadium of Light would have trouble keeping the lights on. Sunderland welcomed Hull City to the Wearside on Saturday, and the Tigers' form wasn't the only thing gone dark after play was temporarily suspended in the second half as the floodlights went out.

Black Cats took the spoils 3-0 courtesy of a Victor Anichebe brace and Jermain Defoe's 150th Premier League goal.

Heinous Helsingborg supporters shame 2 generations of Larssons

Celtic legend Henrik Larsson's Helsingborg was on the wrong side of a 2-1 Swedish relegation playoff defeat to Halmstads, and while the result was a poor one, the conduct of a handful of supporters was inexcusable.

Supporters took to the field in protest, and while many of the players wisely retreated, Larsson's son and Helsingborgs striker, Jordan, was mobbed by angry fans. After tearing the jersey off the 19-year-old's back, Jordan can be seen standing up to the unruly bunch. As tough as his dad it seems.

Some people don't deserve football.

Yaya yokel yearns for Dad of the Year honour

When a Manchester City supporter ran onto the pitch with his young daughter in tow in the 83rd minute to celebrate Yaya Toure's second goal in a 2-1 victory, it capped off a bizarre afternoon at Selhurst Park.

While the man is likely to face a stadium ban, the daughter can take solace in the fact that she now has as many Premier League appearances this season as Toure.

This blows

FC Midtjylland 'keeper Johan Dahlin was the victim of a harsh call from the official during Sunday's Danish Superliga defeat to Sonderjyske. Dahlin's attempted clearance caught a robust gust, leaving the shot-stopper little to do but catch his return.

The ref whistled the play dead and handed the host an indirect free-kick. Bit strident, that.

A weekly look at Patrice Evra's Instagram

This week in Patrice Evra's Instagram, the Juventus full-back was exercising his vocal chops with a stirring rendition of Bobby McFerrin's 1998 hit "Don't Worry Be Happy."

Football's bulwark of bustle and bastion of brio, Evra had plenty of reason to be pleased after 90 minutes in the Old Lady's comprehensive 3-0 victory over Abruzzo minnow Pescara on Saturday.
