Report: Ole Miss assistant AD placed on administrative leave

Shanna Lockwood / USA TODAY Sports

Ole Miss has placed assistant athletic director Barney Farrer on administrative leave because of his role in former Rebel offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil receiving impermissible benefits, according to Antonio Morales of The Clarion-Ledger.

During the 2016 NFL Draft, pictures of Tunsil surfaced on social media, with one allegedly showing text messages between him and an Ole Miss administrator.

In the message, Tunsil asks for money to pay for rent and his mother's electric and water bills. In a reply to Tunsil's message, the administrator, John Miller, said for Tunsil to "see Barney next week."

After the draft, Tunsil admitted to taking money from Ole Miss coaches, leading the NCAA to reopen its investigation.

Farrer didn't travel with the Rebels to Texas A&M last weekend, and isn't expected to travel this weekend to Vanderbilt either.

Neither athletic director Ross Bjork, nor head coach Hugh Freeze would comment on Farrar's leave.
