Parsons on Mavs' Cuban: I knew I would be taken care of financially

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has always been rather lax in terms of his fraternization with players, and no where is this more obvious than the bromance that existed between Cuban and former Mav Chandler Parsons. Big nights out with the billionaire and an influential role in personnel decisions - Parsons had it all.

As reported by Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the league's ultimate bromance couldn't last forever. With a torn meniscus in his right knee and a decision on whether to exercise his player option with the Mavs looming at the end of the regular season, Parsons didn't worry about his future.

"As much as it hurt to see my season cut short," Parsons said, "I knew it wasn't career-ending and I knew financially I was going to be taken care of by Mark."

According to ESPN, Parsons continued to envision his future in Texas by shopping for a nearly $8-million home in north Dallas, which he intended to purchase when his new deal was inked in July.

"Throughout the whole process going into free agency, I always thought Dallas was going to be the place," Parsons said. "I thought we had a mutual understanding that I was going to be there for the whole time and I was going to retire a Mav. Obviously, the second surgery gave him a little doubt, and I believe some people got in his head about it."

Parsons told ESPN that Cuban "consistently" told him they'd get a long-term deal done, though Cuban silently disputed the claim by shaking his head. Parsons also claims he would have accepted a four-year deal with the Mavs for "a lot less" than the max $98 million, though Cuban argues the pitch was never long term - the team only pushed for him to opt into his $16 million player option.

Calling the pitch "ludicrous," Parsons declined. Eventually contact between the sides dwindled, and Parsons signed a four-year, $94.8-million maximum contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.

"I was being avoided," Parsons said of the break-up with Dallas. "I was being pushed out. I was being ignored. So awkward."
