Florida State's Derwin James unlikely to return before bowl game

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Florida State safety Derwin James will likely sit out the remainder of the regular season as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher delivered the news Wednesday, and added he's hopeful James can return for a bowl game.

"You won't see him back during the regular season," Fisher said on his radio show, according to Bob Ferrante of 247 Sports. "There's no reason to chance it."

James has been out since tearing the cartilage in his left knee during the third quarter of a Sept. 10 blowout versus Charleston Southern.

The sophomore recorded 11 tackles and an interception in two games this year.

Florida State hosts Boston College on Friday, and has two additional contests left on its regular-season slate.
